YJ0CA puts Vanuatu on SSB from Port Vila Oct 18-30

Vanuatu will be on the air on phone for the next two weeks. Chris, VK2YUS, is operating as YJ0CA from Port Vila on Efate Island from October 18 to 30, 2026, according to DX-World. This is a return visit for him, and the operation is SSB only.

Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific. For stations in the continental US the path runs across the Pacific, so the openings to watch for are the long evening and overnight windows that line up with his operating hours.

Chris expects to be on mostly between 2100 UTC and 1000 UTC. That works out to roughly 4 p.m. to 5 a.m. US Central Daylight Time. On 40 meters he is using a quarter-wave vertical with elevated radials. On his other bands he is running a mix of dipoles and verticals. The report did not list the specific bands or frequencies.

To work him, listen on the SSB portions of the bands from late afternoon through the night, Central time. 40 meters is the band where his antenna setup is described in the most detail. A modest single-operator station often draws a pileup, so patience and short, clean calls help.
