5H3MB returns to Tanzania for a month on HF from October 19

5H3MB on HF from Tanzania for a month

Tanzania will have a familiar voice on HF for the next month. Maurizio, IK2GZU, plans to be active as 5H3MB from October 19 to November 19, according to his announcement to DX-World.

The trip is not a DXpedition in the usual sense. Maurizio is returning to Tanzania for a volunteer period at the Ikelu hospital in the country's South Highlands, and he will operate in his free time, as he has done on earlier visits. That means activity will fit around his hospital work rather than follow a fixed schedule.

He plans to work HF on SSB, CW, RTTY and FT8. His station is built around a Yaesu FT-891 with an amplifier and dipole antennas, a modest setup by DXpedition standards, so a quiet location and good timing on your end will help.

For US operators, Tanzania sits in East Africa, and the path from North America is often best when the band is open across the Atlantic toward Africa. Keep an eye on the DX cluster for spots, and since operating time is limited to his off-duty hours, a month-long window gives patient chasers several chances.

The announcement did not list specific frequencies, operating times or a QSL route.
