Trevor Hughes, G4WKJ, designer of the SNAIL Morse key, SK

Trevor Hughes, G4WKJ, the designer of the widely used SNAIL Morse key, has passed away, the RSGB announced. The Society described him as a much respected former volunteer at its National Radio Centre (NRC).
According to the RSGB, Trevor was a great lover of music and a talented musician as well as a radio amateur. CW operators will know his name through the SNAIL key, which the Society called hugely popular and widely used.
"Silent Key" is the traditional amateur radio term for an operator who has died, a phrase that comes from the days when a telegrapher's key fell quiet for the last time. It is a fitting tribute for a man whose design is still in use on the bands.
The RSGB's announcement did not include further details. Our thoughts are with Trevor's family, friends and fellow volunteers.
